Abstract: Initial Considerations: Effective communication is one of the pillars of health care. However, deaf people still face significant barriers in accessing health services due to the lack of preparation of professionals to communicate in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). The inclusion of Libras in the training of professionals in the area is essential to promote humanized, accessible and inclusive care, guaranteeing the right to health for all, as assured by the Federal Constitution and Law No. 10.436/2002. Objective: To analyze the relevance of teaching Libras in the academic training of health professionals, highlighting its role in promoting effective communication with deaf patients and improving the quality of care provided. Specific Objectives: Report the relevance of including the teaching of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in the academic training of nurses, with a focus on promoting accessible and humanized care for the deaf population. Discuss the importance of Libras as an instrument of inclusion and guarantee of rights in the context of public health. Address assistive technology and promote inclusive nursing.Methodology: The study was developed based on a bibliographic review of scientific articles, legislation and official documents related to accessibility in health. Publications from the last ten years were included and analyzed qualitatively and descriptively, focusing on the practices and challenges faced by health professionals when dealing with deaf patients. Results and Discussion: The data indicate that most health professionals do not have adequate knowledge of Libras, which compromises the diagnosis, therapeutic bond and comprehensive care for deaf patients. The lack of training in Libras results in fragmented communications, usually mediated by family members, violating the patient's autonomy. Studies show that the inclusion of Libras in the curriculum of health courses contributes to the training of professionals who are more capable, empathetic and aware of the specific needs of this population. The adoption of institutional policies and awareness-raising actions are also essential. Final Considerations: The implementation of Libras teaching in the training of health professionals is a necessary step to guarantee the universal right to quality and equitable health. In addition to expanding social inclusion, it contributes to a more ethical and humanized practice, respecting the singularities of each patient. The commitment to accessibility must be present from the academic training, reflected in fairer and more welcoming professional practices.
