Abstract: This study addresses cervical cancer, focusing on the crucial role of nurses in primary healthcare for its prevention and early detection. Objectives: To understand the historical, epidemiological, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of cancer; To discuss public health policies related to cervical cancer; To describe the strategies used by nurses in the prevention and detection of cervical cancer in primary care. Materials and Methods: The methodology employed involved a theoretical content research, with a detailed literature review of existing scientific literature on the subject. Epidemiological studies, public health guidelines, and clinical practices related to cervical cancer were analyzed. Results: Emphasize the importance of health policies, such as screening and vaccination programs, in reducing the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer. Furthermore, they highlight the nurse's role as an effective health educator, playing a central role in promoting preventive measures and conducting essential exams, such as the Pap smear. Conclusion: It is concluded that nurses play a fundamental role in promoting women's health and reducing the impact of cervical cancer. This study provides valuable insights to improve clinical practices, nurse training, and health policy formulation.
