Abstract: This article examines the importance of global trade for the world economy, focusing on the specific impacts on countries in the Global South. Based on an analysis of the main theories of international trade, such as comparative advantage and the Heckscher-Ohlin model, the study discusses how these theories underpin trade between nations but often fail to account for the structural inequalities affecting developing countries. The article then explores the process of international and regional economic integration, highlighting the benefits and challenges faced by emerging economies as they attempt to enter global markets. International trade is a promising avenue for the economic development of Global South countries, as it facilitates access to markets, investments, and technologies, but it also presents challenges, such as dependence on commodity exports and exposure to global price volatility. The article concludes that while global trade offers opportunities, it is necessary to adopt trade and development policies that promote economic diversification and a more equitable distribution of the benefits of trade. The literature review conducted emphasizes the importance of reforms in international trade structures to support sustainable and inclusive growth in these countries.
