A IMPORTÂNCIA DA MÍDIA PARA O RECONDICIONAMENTO DA DIPLOMACIA INSTITUCIONAL EM RISCO
Para entender a relação entre o jornalismo e as relações internacionais, este artigo analisa a
importância da comunicação institucional para a diplomacia brasileira dentro do contexto
global. Considerando as tradições diplomáticas mediadoras do Brasil, o mandato do atual
presidente Jair Bolsonaro modificou alguns aspectos importantes, principalmente no que diz
respeito ao direcionamento de sua política interna, o que repercute nas relações
internacionais. O jornalismo, um dos pilares fundamentais para a preservação da democracia,
ora corrobora com a informação, outrora com a disseminação de discursos de líderes
populistas como Bolsonaro e Trump, sendo usado até mesmo como marketing gratuito. O
objetivo deste trabalho é investigar como a mídia reportou os discursos de Jair Bolsonaro
durante quatro eventos específicos de seu mandato, e os impactos dessas declarações na
tradição diplomática brasileira. Por meio de revisão bibliográfica e documental, constatou-se
semelhanças e dessemelhanças nas reportagens dos periódicos analisados: Folha de
S.Paulo e The New York Times de 2019 a 2022. Pode-se concluir que a comunicação
institucional tem, de fato, um papel relevante no que diz respeito às relações internacionais e
que a mídia é uma catalizadora na relevância dessa informação, amplificando o curso da
comunicação institucional.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the relationship between journalism and foreign affairs and the
importance of institutional communication for Brazilian diplomacy within the global context.
Considering Brazil's mediating diplomatic traditions, the current president Jair Bolsonaro’s
mandate has changed some important aspects, especially regarding the direction of his
domestic policy, which has repercussions on international relations. Journalism is one of the
fundamental pillars for the preservation of democracy, at times it collaborates with information,
and at other times the dissemination of speeches by populist leaders such as Bolsonaro and
Trump, resulting in its use as free marketing. The objective of this paper is to investigate how
the media reported Jair Bolsonaro's speeches during four specific events of his mandate and
the impacts of these statements on the Brazilian diplomatic tradition. By means of literature
and documental review, similarities and dissimilarities were found in the reports of the analyzed
periodicals: Folha de S.Paulo and The New York Times from 2019 to 2022. We concluded that
institutional communication has, in fact, a relevant role when it comes to international relations
and that the media is a catalyst in the relevance of this information, amplifying the course of
institutional communication.
