Abstract: The importance of the maternal-fetal bond is known, but the main way to concretize and strengthen this bond – breastfeeding in the first hour of the newborn's life – is little covered. Thus, breast milk is made up of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat, as well as protective and immunity factors, such as antibodies, leukocytes, fatty acids, and others. Thus, it is a source of protection for the newborn, who does not yet have an effective immune system. In this same perspective, breast milk has a type of iron that is highly absorbed in the newborn's intestine, as well as vitamin B12 and folic acid. According to the World Health Organization, neonatal mortality is directly related to the lack of breastfeeding, and it can reduce this fact by up to 22%, and in this same approach, it is worth noting that the earlier the initiation of breastfeeding, the lower the chances of infections and also deaths in this age group. Thus, changing the bias and focusing on the mother, the reduction in the incidence of postpartum hemorrhage should be emphasized, as it stimulates uterine contractility, in addition to stimulating milk production. With this, there is the release of the hormones oxytocin and prolactin, where both promote good and satisfactory feelings and sensations in front of the newborn. In view of the above, it is expected that the encouragement and knowledge of the benefits of early breastfeeding will encourage more and more mothers, especially primiparous mothers, to start such a practice aimed at the benefit of breastfeeding with their child and also focused on the better development of the newborn, where it is also worth measuring the great value of exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months, where the immune system is still very immature, and its main source of nutrition and protection is breastfeeding.
