A ICONOCLASTIA DA RELIGIÃO OCIDENTAL: UM PARADOXO DO IMAGINÁRIO SEGUNDO GILBERT DURAND
O presente trabalho tem como objetivo realizar uma breve análise histórica da concepção iconoclasta na tradição religiosa do Ocidente, observando as várias correntes de pensamentos que surgiram ao longo do tempo. Para tanto, empregando-se o método de abordagem dialético e, utilizando pesquisa bibliográfica, tendo por base o livro O Imaginário: Ensaios acerca das ciências e da filosofia da imagem (2014), no qual Gilbert Durand faz uma apanhando histórico sobre o trajeto do imaginário no Ocidente, traçando um cenário das diferentes posições e papéis ocupados pela imaginação na Filosofia, na Religião e na formação do imaginário coletivo, em dialógo com vários pensadores, como Sócrates, Platão, Aristóteles, Weber, Hegel, dentre outros. A problemática durandiana reside em um antigo paradoxo: a civilização ocidental, por um lado, proporcionou técnicas de expansão das imagens, mas por outro lado, criou uma crescente desconfiança iconoclasta. Como resultados, constatou-se que o hodierno ciclo iconoclastra, marcado pela “civilização da imagem” permitiu a descoberta dos poderes da imagem há tanto tempo recalcados.

Abstract:
The present work aims to carry out a brief historical analysis of the iconoclastic conception in the religious tradition of the West, observing the various currents of thought that have emerged over time. Therefore, using the dialectical approach method and, using bibliographic research, based on the book The Imaginary: Essays on the sciences and philosophy of the image (2014), Gilbert Durand makes a historical overview of the path of the imaginary in the West, traces a scenario of the different positions and roles occupied by the imagination in Philosophy, in Religion and in the formation of the collective imaginary, dialogues with several thinkers such as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Weber, Hegel, among others. The Durandian problem resides in an ancient paradox: Western civilization, on the one hand, provided techniques for the expansion of images, but on the other hand, created a growing iconoclastic distrust. As results, it was found that the today's iconoclastra cycle, marked by the "civilization of the image" allowed the discovery of the powers of the image so long repressed.
