Abstract: Through a small epistemological discussion about Oral History, the text discusses and analyzes the relevance of oral sources in historical research and their contribution to the historiography of education. The study is characterized as qualitative research, of a descriptive nature and resorted to the use of bibliographic sources as a methodological path. Suffocated by positivist postulates, Oral History resurfaced as a research strategy in the history from the 1950s onwards, gaining academic vigor in the following decades. History is a living, dynamic phenomenon. Historical facts are not closed in on themselves. From this premise arises the need to rethink the past. As the past is revisited, it reveals unprecedented discoveries for the history of education. Oral sources differ from traditional sources because they are not found at random or in their raw state: they are produced collectively, through the dialectic relationship between interviewer and interviewee, in a movement mediated by memory and language. Oral History does not deny the classic documentary sources. By answering questions that traditional sources are unable to elucidate, by filling in the gaps presented in printed and/or written documents, Oral History dialogues with other types of sources, raises new questions and opens up horizons and perspectives for approaching and interpreting the historical phenomenon. Following this path, oral sources make it possible to elucidate a story not yet known or partially explained by classic sources.
