Abstract: This study aims to explore the training of basic education teachers in light of Freirean ideas, discussing current challenges and future perspectives for teaching practice. It is a theoretical essay on the training of basic education teachers based on the contributions of Paulo Freire. This essay argues that, for educational policies to be effective in teacher training, they must be grounded in Freirean principles of dialogue, critical reflection, and social commitment, emphasizing the importance of critical education, the integration of theory and practice, and continuous professional development. Policies should ensure that teachers have access to ongoing training programs that help them stay updated and reflect on their practices. The conclusion is that basic education teacher training should be a space for collective construction, where knowledge is shared and questioned, and where the commitment to social transformation is a core value. Paulo Freire’s work continues to inspire educators and challenge them to reflect on their role in society, reaffirming education as a space for resistance and hope.
