Abstract: The Maria da Penha Law, enacted in 2006, is a milestone in the fight against gender-based violence in Brazil, reflecting significant advances in the protection of women's rights. This article on the evolution and updating of the law addresses, in general terms, the aspects that allow victims to request urgent protective measures, guaranteeing their immediate safety, this being one of the main innovations of the legislation. The recognition of different forms of violence, including physical, psychological, sexual, patrimonial and moral, providing a broader approach to the issue of violence against women. The creation of special courts to deal with cases of domestic and family violence, which has facilitated access to justice, with a focus on agility and sensitivity in dealing with victims' demands. The inclusion of awareness and education campaigns on women's rights, aiming at preventing violence. As well as the lack of awareness and ignorance about the law and its mechanisms. The barriers in accessing justice, where victims often face difficulties in accessing protection services. The culture of violence and machismo persists in many sectors of society, making it difficult to enforce the rights provided for in the law and the change in mentality necessary for true gender equality. The article also suggests the need for constant updates to the legislation, in order to address new forms of violence and ensure comprehensive protection for women. The methodology used to achieve our objectives was research with bibliographical analyses, through consultation of different sources, such as laws, books, articles, periodicals, magazines, websites. It was concluded that although the Maria da Penha Law has brought innovations, advances, and changes since its creation, it still encounters difficulties in its applicability and enforcement, due to factors that can be solved if the agenda is prioritized.
