Abstract: The psychiatric reform had a relevant influence on the construction of policies in psychosocial care. The services offered in the various Psychosocial Care Centers – CAPS, distributed in several Brazilian cities and municipalities, have had a positive impact on the lives of users of these services, in the family and social sphere. Despite these great advances, the prejudice, resistance, and stigma arising from the family, society and even the person in mental suffering is very crystallized, which makes it necessary to spread the importance of the services offered by the CAPS. Thus, the research aims to briefly understand the knowledge of psychologists who work in CAPS about the history and performance of psychological practice in institutions located in a municipality in Western Bahia, to discuss the Psychiatrist Reform and the Struggle Anti-asylum in Brazil, which enabled the implementation of a new Mental Health Policy promoting the development of exceptionally relevant points such as the CAPS and ascertaining the main demands and difficulties faced by psychologists who work in the CAPS from a municipality in Western Bahia. Therefore, the survey was conducted in person based on semi-structured interviews with psychology professionals who work in CAPS in the municipality. The data obtained were analyzed based on the qualitative method, of the exploratory type, through content analysis. The results found that psychology professionals work with demands related to suicide, mental disorders and the use of alcohol and other drugs. The main difficulties are expressed through the lack of material and structural resources necessary to conduct the profession, lack of knowledge of other professionals about the demands addressed and the psychosocial network, as well as the lack of adherence to treatment. Professionals conduct their practice supporting the profession's code of ethics and human rights, as well as the milestones arising from the history of the anti-asylum struggle, fighting all prejudice and stigma and offering humane treatment to patients. They also guide the subjects, respecting their rights and helping them to promote dignity, autonomy, and empowerment, in addition to working towards the restoration of family and social bonds.
