Abstract: The communication presented here is to explore, through latin comedies produced during the Republican period, the relations and practices of slavery among the Romans. Following this purpose it was selected the comedy “Captivi” or “The Captives “produced by Titus Maccius Plautus (254-184 BC) or just Plautus. The study of the topic was carried out through a discussion of the Roman Republic, slavery, theater and latin comedies, aiming to demonstrate the relationship between the work, the author and its production context. As it is a comical text, the theoretical-methodological discussion was guided by the elements typical of comedy such as exaggeration, vulgar and sometimes outrageous language, light criticism and situations that escape reality, with the aim of promoting laughter in the viewing public. All the previously mentioned elements allude to Plautus and his comic writings, in the 2nd century BC.
