Abstract: Empathy is of fundamental importance for the application of the Patient-Centered Clinical Method and is related with higher patient satisfaction and self knowledge development. This study adopted a methodology of systematic literature review of narrative character works in Portuguese language from the period from march to august of 2022. The general goal was to evaluate the functioning and application of empathy in the doctor-patient relation through theoretical references. The results indicate that empathy works through the cerebrocerebellum network mediation which takes information from the sensory neuron to the neocortex, being possible to apply it in the doctor-patient relationship by adopting a Patient-Centered Approach and not a disease centered.
