Abstract: This article analyzes the effectiveness of the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA) in protecting the human rights of children and adolescents in Brazil, highlighting advances, challenges, and prospects. Established by Law No. 8,069/1990, the ECA consolidated the principle of comprehensive protection, aligning the Brazilian legal system with international human rights guidelines. Despite regulatory progress, the realization of rights faces obstacles stemming from social inequalities, institutional infrastructure gaps, and weaknesses in public policies aimed at children and adolescents. This qualitative and descriptive research is based on a bibliographic and documentary review (legal doctrines, legislation, reports, and official data). The results indicate that, although the ECA has significantly reshaped the conception of childhood and citizenship, its effectiveness still depends on coordinated action by the State, society, and families, as well as the strengthening of protection and oversight bodies such as Guardianship Councils and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. We conclude that full implementation of the Statute requires intersectoral public policies, investment in professional training, and continuous political commitment to ensure the integral development and dignity of children and adolescents, in accordance with constitutional principles and international human rights treaties.
