Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the effectiveness of Law No. 11,340/2006 popularly known as the Maria da Penha Law in the Brazilian legal and social context. The research sought to contextualize the phenomenon of domestic and family violence against women, addressing the historical path that culminated in the creation of the aforementioned legislation and its impact on different states in the country. The bibliographic investigation was based on scientific articles available in specialized digital databases, allowing us to identify the main challenges faced in the practical application of the law. It was found that this law represented a significant advance in combating gender violence, by providing for protective measures and stricter penalties for aggressors, contributing to the visibility of the issue and the development of public policies. However, the data analyzed show that, despite the progress achieved, there is still a long way to go. The full effectiveness of the Maria da Penha Law requires continuous actions that prioritize not only punishment, but also the humane reception of victims, as well as greater speed and efficiency in the actions of the responsible agencies.
