Abstract: Human Rights Education (HRE) constitutes a central component in the comprehensive development of students and in the strengthening of a democratic, plural, and socially just society (Benevides, 2003; Candau, 2012; Bobbio, 2004). The school, as a space for socialization and knowledge construction, reflects structural social inequalities, which manifest through prejudice, discrimination, symbolic violence, and social exclusion (Bourdieu, 1998; Silva, 2011). In this context, HRE emerges as a pedagogical strategy capable of promoting respect for human dignity, valuing diversity, and fostering critical citizenship (Brazil, 2007; United Nations, 1948). This article aims to analyze the relevance of Human Rights Education in the school environment, emphasizing its theoretical foundations, implementation challenges, and contributions to citizenship education. This qualitative study is based on a bibliographic review of classical and contemporary authors, as well as official documents.
