A Editora Vozes, a Igreja e o Regime Militar no Brasil
A Editora Vozes posicionou-se,
no período entre (1972 a 1983), diante do
regime militar, com coragem e resistência
às atrocidades cometidas pelos militares.
A editora tornou-se as “vozes” de muitos,
através das diversas publicações
que denunciavam e condenavam o
regime militar, contribuindo assim,
com a redemocratização da sociedade
brasileira. A inteligência e o tino editorial
dos freis Ludovido e Leonardo Boff
que, de um lado, utilizavam-se da
influência da imprensa para combater o
autoritarismo militar, e, por outro lado,
demonstravam a preocupação com a
documentação por meio de um livro
dessa envergadura, vislumbrando seu
valor quanto à compreensão do que de
fato ocorria em tempos de repressão.
Ao publicar o livro Brasil: nunca mais,
que trata sobre os bastidores do regime
militar, a editora ofereceu ao público
uma edição que se tornou histórica e
ao mesmo tempo um documento para
a memória de um passado sombrio na
vida do país. É de se perguntar o porquê
da ousadia da Editora Vozes e do grupo
da Revista Eclesiástica Brasileira (REB)
em relação ao regime militar e também
em relação à Igreja romana, que via com
desconfiança as obras sobre a Teologia
da Libertação. Como uma editora com
esses posicionamentos e o grupo da REB
puderam subsistir durante tanto tempo,
tendo como “adversários”, por vezes,
setores retrógrados e conservadores da
Igreja e com regime opressor e violento
à espreita.

Abstract:
In the period between 1972
and 1983, Editora Vozes stood before
the military regime with courage and
resistance to the atrocities committed
by the military. The publishing house
became the “voices” of many, through the
various publications that denounced and

condemned the military regime, thus contributing to the redemocratization of Brazilian
society. The intelligence and editorial skills of friars Ludovido and Leonardo Boff, who,
on the one hand, used the influence of the press to combat military authoritarianism,
and, on the other hand, showed concern for documentation by means of a book of
this magnitude, glimpsing its value in understanding what actually occurred in times of
repression. In publishing the book Brazil: Never Again, which refers to the backstage
of the military regime, the publisher offered the public an edition that became historical
and at the same time a document for the memory of a dark past in the life of the country.
It is necessary to ask the reason for the audacity of Editora Vozes and the group of
the Brazilian Ecclesiastical Magazine (REB) in relation to the military regime and also
in relation to the Roman Church, which distrusted works on Liberation Theology. As a
publishing house with these positions and the group of the REB could survive for so
long, having as “opponents”, sometimes, backward and conservative sectors of the
Church and with an oppressive and violent regime lurking.
