Abstract: Pedagogical documentation reveals the child, their way of thinking, feeling, acting, learning, and being. In this sense, pedagogical documentation becomes an essential means of communication with families. A study was conducted within the scope of the Master's Degree in Preschool Education, carried out at ESECS, Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal. The present article aims to demonstrate the importance of pedagogical documentation as a transformative element in communication with families, through their perspectives. The findings revealed that through close, direct, and continuous contact with pedagogical documentation, families were able to follow their children’s experiences in kindergarten. This process fostered greater proximity, trust, and understanding of the group’s dynamics as well as the individual developmental processes of each child. Families valued the pedagogical documentation and showed motivation and interest in collaborating with the kindergarten, as they could observe their children’s active engagement in their own developmental and learning processes.
