Abstract: From a clinical case followed in the clinic, several reflections emerged that helped in the construction of this work, among them, the psychic development of the subject who does not have vision, how this occurs without having this sensory function since birth and mainly, the function of the mother at the beginning of development, as she plays an important role in constructing an image of the subject. The hypothesis raised during the formation of this article is related precisely to this issue of psychic development, whether processes such as the acquisition of language, the function of speech, words and voice end up having an even greater importance and role in individuals who do not have a of the human sensory apparatus, vision. The objective of this work is to summarize the main issues that can help in understanding the psychic development of a patient with visual impairment, which aspects would be most important and conclude with the points of attention for us, which should always be re-analyzed during the course of the analytical process. The methodology used to construct this work involved selecting the subjects that would be related to the theme and bringing them, because the combination of these subjects will enable the demystification of some cultural preconceptions about visual impairment and our own professional practice. These subjects are: visual impairment within psychoanalysis, the acquisition of language and the important role of the mother, the mirror stage, the difference between seeing and looking, an essential topic for understanding the absence of vision, the importance of touch and a succinct look at countertransference, as it is closely related to professional practice in the face of a case like this, within the clinical context. The structure, development and completion made it possible to confirm the hypothesis that this period in the subject's history is fundamental
