A CONTRIBUIÇÃO DOS SISTEMAS METROVIÁRIOS PARA O ATINGIMENTO DAS METAS DE REDUÇÃO DAS EMISSÕES DE GASES DO EFEITO ESTUFA ESTUDOS EM METRÔS DO BRASIL E DE PORTUGAL
O aumento das emissões de gases do efeito estufa pode provocar prejuízos ambientais ao planeta. O setor de transportes é responsável por uma parcela significativa das emissões globais, basicamente através do consumo de combustíveis fósseis e da geração da eletricidade. Os governos buscam alternativas para minimizar o aumento das emissões, inclusive algumas grandes cidades criaram metas específicas de reduções das emissões. Os sistemas metroviários, por se tratarem de sistemas a base de energia elétrica, geralmente emitem menos do que outros meios de transportes de passageiros, a base de combustíveis fósseis. Este trabalho visa apresentar o conceito de emissões evitadas pela existência do sistema metroviário, analisando os resultados encontrados em estudos de casos em cidades do Brasil e de Portugal. Com isso, foi possível verificar a real contribuição dos sistemas metroviários para o atingimento das metas de reduções das grandes cidades.

Abstract:
Increasing greenhouse gas emissions can cause environmental damage to the planet. The transport sector is responsible for a significant share of global emissions, primarily through fossil fuel consumption and electricity generation. Governments are looking for alternatives to minimize emissions growth, including some major cities have set specific emission reduction targets. Subway systems, as they are electricity-based systems, generally emit less than other fossil fuel-based passenger vehicles. This paper aims to present the concept of emissions avoided by the existence of the subway system, analyzing the results found in case studies in cities in Brazil and Portugal. With this, it was possible to verify the real contribution of the subway systems to reach the reduction targets of the big cities.
