Abstract: Food waste is a reality that gets worse when we observe that part of what goes to waste could feed a significant number of people in a situation of food insecurity, a situation that compromises sustainability. In the case of Brazil, the contrasts are evident, we have a reference country in food production, which wastes 30% of production throughout the chain and a population that goes hungry. In this context, the circular economy emerges, which aims to redefine the circular production chain, where what was previously waste can be used. In the case of food, use must be complete and adaptations must occur throughout the production chain with food in adequate nutritional conditions. To this end, we aim to survey the CE practices adopted by the government of Amazonas regarding actions to combat food waste in the main markets in Manaus. This is qualitative, exploratory and descriptive, bibliographic and documentary research with content analysis based on the state program to combat and prevent food waste and loss, implemented in 2019, which has already collected 750,000 kg of food, benefiting approximately 26.5 thousand people/month and has more than 800 institutions registered to receive food collected at the main fairs in the capital of Amazonas over the 4 years of validity (2019-2022).
