Abstract: This article seeks to carry out a narrative review of studies on obstetric violence, bearing in mind that obstetric violence is a major violation of human rights and represents a public health problem, which causes several risks to women's health. These are abusive and disrespectful actions that can trigger physical, emotional and psychological harm, affecting the well-being of these women. Objective: To identify the importance of nurses' conduct in the face of factors that favor the occurrence of obstetric violence in the hospital. Based on this, specific objectives were outlined that include describing the main factors that favor the occurrence of obstetric violence in the intra-hospital environment, analyzing the role played by nurses in this context, highlighting the need for humanized, safe and effective assistance to guarantee the women's rights, addressing legislation and public policies related to obstetric violence. Materials and Methods: A bibliographical search of the literature was carried out, based on academic and scientific research available on Google Scholar, Ordinances, Public Portal Sites, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), using the descriptors: "Obstetric Violence", "Factors that favor obstetric violence", "Underreporting by professionals", "Nursing Assistance in Violence" and "Laws that guarantee women's rights". Articles published in Portuguese and Spanish were considered. The nurse, equipped with knowledge about the birth process, must respect and guarantee the protection of pregnant women, sharing techniques to minimize this common practice and adopting behaviors for humanized care. Furthermore, there needs to be specific legislation in Brazil to protect women against obstetric violence, ensuring respect for their rights during the birth process and obstetric care.
