A COMUNIDADE DOS ARTUROS: existir, resistir, sobrevir
A comunidade dos Arturos,
localizada em Contagem, estado de Minas
Gerais, detém várias tradições populares,
transmitidas entre suas gerações desde a
formação do grupo. Procurando manter vivas
essas tradições e a memória coletiva da
família artura, seus membros ‒ descendentes
de negros escravizados ‒ buscam difundi-las,
através de festas, ritos e outras manifestações.
Nos momentos festivos, sua história é contada
por cantos, danças, ritmos dos tambores e dos
rituais, que transmitem um legado secular.
Com a expansão do centro urbano, a
comunidade ficou mais próxima da cidade, fator
que pode gerar alguns conflitos, já que esse
conjunto de valores culturais nem sempre são
aceitos, ou compreendidos pela sociedade.
Todavia, os Arturos procuram estabelecer
um diálogo, para que suas práticas culturais
possam ser representadas e valorizadas no
contexto social urbano. Para tal, os integrantes
dessa comunidade mantêm uma relação com
a população de Contagem, de maneira a firmar
a legitimidade e o prestígio de um grupo, de
identidade significativa, que deseja superar
as adversidades da vida cotidiana. Este texto
propõe, pois, uma discussão sobre a questão
da construção da identidade cultural e da
resistência na comunidade dos Arturos, a partir
de sua formação, tradições e ritos, os quais são
negociados com a sociedade, da qual fazem
parte.

Abstract:
The community of the Arturos,
which is located in Contagem, state of Minas
Gerais, has several popular traditions, that are
transmitted between the generations since the
group’s formation. Trying to keep alive these
traditions and the collective memory of the
Arturos family, the members - descendants of
black slaves - seek to spread them through the
celebration, the rites and other manifestations.
In their festive moments, their history is told by
singing, by dancing, by the rhytms of the drums,
and by rites. All of these manifestations are
transmiting a secular legacy.
The expansion of the urban center has made an
approache among the community and the city.
This factor maybe can generate some conflicts,
since the comunity’s set of cultural values are
not always well accepted or understood by the
society. However, the Arturos seek to establish
a dialogue, so their cultural practices could be represented and valued in the urban
social context. In order to do so, the members of that community have a relationship
with the population of Contagem, with the proposal to demonstrate their legitimacy and
the prestigious of a group, which has a signifi cant identity, and wishes to overcome
the adversities of daily life. This text, therefore, proposes a discussion on the question
of the cultural’s construction identity and resistance in this community, based on their
formation, traditions and rites, which are negotiated with the society, which where they
are included.
