Abstract: This article aims to investigate the transformations in the thinking of ECLAC over time, focusing on the changes that resulted in the "New ECLAC." The adoption of neoliberal principles led ECLAC to abandon some of its most distinctive assumptions, namely, the debate with the dominant tone and the critical enthronement of mainstream thinking. The study intends, therefore, to answer the following research question: "What led to the paradigm shift in ECLAC, causing the commission to contradict many of its classic opinions, uncritically adopting neoliberal ideals and serving as a disseminator, in Latin America, of the dictates of the Washington Consensus?" This study posits the hypothesis that the observed change was largely driven by the Zeitgeist that emerged after the end of the Cold War.
