Abstract: This study examines the forged biography of Maria Dimpina Lobo Duarte (1891-1966), a teacher, the first female civil servant in the state of Mato Grosso, and one of the founders of the Cuiabá women's magazine A Violeta (1916-1950), through the press. Despite being a prominent figure in the Literary and Cultural Studies of Cuiabá, there is no evidence of a more consistent biography about her. In this sense, the main intention of this text is to gather elements about her life and intellectual trajectory, in order to contribute not only to the historiography of women in the Brazilian press, but also to the history of women itself. In addition to her role as editor and director of A Violeta, Maria Dimpina stood out for being one of its assiduous collaborators throughout the more than three decades in which A Violeta circulated, signing some columns under different pseudonyms. In the pages of the magazine, she widely defended education and women's intellectual emancipation. Still during her youth, she was recognized as the first woman graduated in Sciences and Letters from the Liceu Cuiabano. In 1916, she founded, alongside women from the elite, the Grêmio Literário Júlia Lopes, from which the magazine A Violeta was created. This was the period in which she was most active and which is taken here as a powerful source to verify the published representations of Maria Dimpina in the press. The methodology is based on Burke (2011) and Ginzburg (2007) works, while Costa (2018), Pinto (2023), Dosse (2015) and Gonçalves (2009), above all, comprehends the theoretical framework.
