Abstract: The field lesson is one of the methodological practices used by teachers, especially in the teaching of Geography, as it enables an understanding of geographical space through the student's direct contact with the environment, acting as a guiding thread in the teaching/learning process. This didactic resource should be applied in such a way as to provide students with an analysis of the relationships between all the phenomena of spatiality. In this context, the aim of this paper is to present the importance of the field lesson in the teaching of Geography in the early years of elementary school, emphasizing that the field lesson as a didactic tool should be adopted by teachers, but also stressing that it should not be used alone. The methodological procedures adopted were based on a bibliographical review of some authors who deal with the subject. The results obtained show that the field lesson is an essential didactic/pedagogical instrument in the teaching of geographical science, as it is one of the ways of streamlining the approach to content and innovating teaching, so that it is not only developed in a traditional way, thus consolidating a greater significance of the themes worked on in the classroom, a better understanding on the part of the students between the theoretical/practical relationship. Contributing to the formation of an investigative generation that knows how to observe, identify, recognize, locate, perceive, understand and analyze space as a whole, in order to understand its particularities.
