Abstract: Trichotillomania is a disorder marked by the compulsive act of removing hair from one's own body. Although it is a subject of little study, the few articles analyzed demonstrated an association of this condition with other psychiatric disorders. With this in mind, the present study sought to analyze the associations of this disorder with psychological disorders. This is an integrative literature review, in which articles were searched in the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. The search for articles was carried out considering the descriptors “trichotillomania”, “mental disorder” and “adults”, using the Boolean operator “AND”. The criteria used for inclusion and exclusion of the articles analyzed were respectively: free full text, controlled clinical trial, last 5 years of publication (2018-2023) and articles in English; duplicate articles and articles with no relation to the topic. The prevalence of psychiatric disorders associated with trichotillomania varied from study to study. The most cited disorders were: obsessive compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and ADHD. All studies show a high prevalence of psychiatric disorders associated with the occurrence of trichotillomania.
