Abstract: French Discourse Analysis constitutes an important theoretical perspective for language studies by understanding that meanings are not produced exclusively by linguistic structure, but also by the historical, social, and ideological conditions that shape individuals and their discourses. In this context, this article discusses the contributions of Discourse Analysis to the teaching of Portuguese Language, highlighting its role in the development of critical readers capable of interpreting the discourses that circulate in contemporary society. Based on the contributions of Michel Pêcheux (1969), Eni Orlandi (2007), Michel Foucault (1972), and Mikhail Bakhtin (1992), the study examines the relationship between language, ideology, power, and meaning production, demonstrating that every discourse is permeated by symbolic disputes and specific conditions of production. In addition to the theoretical discussion, examples of advertising discourse, social campaigns, and media productions are analyzed, showing how language contributes to the construction of identities, values, and worldviews. The study concludes that Discourse Analysis provides important contributions to Portuguese Language teaching by promoting reading practices that go beyond textual decoding and encourage critical reflection on the explicit and implicit meanings present in different discursive genres.
