Abstract: School retention in upper secondary education represents a relevant challenge for educational institutions, particularly in contexts where socioeconomic conditions, low academic motivation, and limited development opportunities may influence school dropout. This article aims to analyze an institutional experience of business-education collaboration and educational internationalization aimed at strengthening school retention among upper secondary students. The study followed a qualitative-descriptive approach, using a case study design and the systematization of an institutional experience carried out in a Mexican school with approximately 780 students, located in a socially vulnerable context. The intervention consisted of the implementation of academic activities related to robotics, internal competitions, and three international academic mobility experiences conducted between 2017 and 2018, with the participation of 90 students accompanied by teachers and administrative staff. The observed results show that 89 out of the 90 participating students completed upper secondary education, while 80 continued or completed higher education studies. Favorable effects were also identified in academic motivation, future expectations, teacher participation, family involvement, and institutional positioning of the school. It is concluded that business-education collaboration and educational internationalization may constitute complementary formative strategies to strengthen school retention, provided that they are integrated into structured institutional planning, with teacher guidance, family participation, and follow-up of student trajectories. However, since this is a case study, the results should be interpreted as descriptive evidence of a favorable institutional experience rather than as generalizable causal proof.
