A double representation of reality in “Dialogue with the Spirits”
The representation of reality on the screen presupposes a series of signs that lead the spectator to associate what he sees with elements of reality (gestures, emotions). Such representation is treated in this article in the context of the incorporation of an entity (or spirit) under the aspects of communication, alterity and belief. When a medium incorporates a spirit, there is a relationship with an invisible other under the seal of belief in the mediumistic act; it is also a communicational process, as it is a flow that begins with the other, passes through the body (of the medium) and reaches an interlocutor. This, in the object investigated here, is the interviewer of both the entity and the medium. We seek, therefore, to question whether this imbrication can be considered as a double layer of representation of the real. To shed light on our questions.
