Abstract: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease transmitted from person to person through aerosol droplets, caused by a microorganism called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Despite being potentially preventable and curable, tuberculosis remains a major public health problem, and Brazil is among the 22 countries with a high burden of the disease. This research was part of an activity carried out in the microbiology course, aligning teaching and research, with the objective of analyzing the prevalence of tuberculosis in the municipality of Paudalho from 2017 to August 2022, based on a survey of cases. The study was descriptive, with a quantitative approach, where data were collected from the Epidemiological Health Surveillance of the Municipal Health Department of Paudalho, covering the period from 2017 to August 2022, and bibliographic research was conducted using digital books and websites such as SciELO. The observations analyzed gender, race, age group, area of residence (urban and/or rural), and clinical form. The study revealed 144 cases of tuberculosis during the established study period, with a higher incidence in the urban area of the municipality, particularly among males and those of mixed race. Diagnosed cases involved individuals aged 20-39, 40-49, and 50-59, with a higher incidence of the pulmonary clinical form. The significant presence of the disease in the male population was notable; therefore, this group deserves special attention from the health team regarding TB, considering they are the least likely to seek medical services in the municipality. Thus, interventions should be implemented focusing on this target population, aiming to reduce the number of cases in a short period of time. We also considered the proposal of lectures in schools and other community spaces to expand information in order to raise awareness and sensitize residents to the symptoms, risks, prevention, and treatment of TB.
