Abstract: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most prevalent psychiatric conditions, characterized by excessive and persistent worry, difficult to control, and associated with physical and cognitive symptoms. This systematic review aims to analyze the scientific literature on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of GAD, emphasizing recent psychotherapeutic and pharmacological approaches. Articles published between 2015 and 2025 in PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS databases were reviewed. The findings highlight cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) as first-line treatments. Recent advances include digital therapies and glutamate modulators, showing promising results for resistant cases.
