SUBJECTS OF OUR HISTORY

We are students at the Firjan SESI São Gonçalo School, located in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. In 2022 we had new experiences, mainly because we were returning to face-to-face classes and inaugurating the New High School Formative Itinerary. We chose the Human Sciences training itinerary, and during the year, our supervising teacher asked us to develop our research and repertoire. In one of the classes, we discussed protagonism in the community, and so we began to talk about protagonism close to us. Julia Maria, the author of this article, researched and found out about her great-grandfather Manoel Emídio Dias, who was a former World War II fighter, spent 24 hours adrift and was rescued by an American ship. Maria talked about her grandfather João Claudio de Miranda, who was a bricklayer for the Brahma company and a bricklayer in his community, Morro do Abacatão. Using his profession, he paved more than 10 streets and helped put up lampposts.  The importance of this research for us was to see how these stories could be part of a much bigger and more important story: our own. Encouraging us to be protagonists of our own history and even that of our communities. Thinking of the city of São Gonçalo for what it lacks, for what it is negative, is not our aim. We want to show how we can be the protagonists of the social changes we want for our community.

  • Abstract: We are students at the Firjan SESI São Gonçalo School, located in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. In 2022 we had new experiences, mainly because we were returning to face-to-face classes and inaugurating the New High School Formative Itinerary. We chose the Human Sciences training itinerary, and during the year, our supervising teacher asked us to develop our research and repertoire. Encouraging us to be protagonists of our own history and even that of our communities. Thinking of the city of São Gonçalo for what it lacks, for what it is negative, is not our aim. We want to show how we can be the protagonists of the social changes we want for our community.
