Abstract: Systemic arterial hypertension is a chronic condition that affects a large portion of the elderly population, representing a significant public health issue. In this context, the use of herbal medicines has emerged as a complementary alternative for blood pressure control, offering therapeutic potential with fewer side effects compared to synthetic drugs. This study aims to analyze, through an integrative review of scientific literature, the available evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of herbal medicines in the treatment of systemic arterial hypertension in elderly individuals. The research was conducted using a qualitative and descriptive approach, analyzing publications indexed in the MEDLINE/PubMed, LILACS/BVS, and SciELO databases. The results indicate that herbal medicines such as Hibiscus sabdariffa, Morus nigra, Allium sativum, and Passiflora incarnata demonstrated effectiveness in reducing blood pressure and improving associated factors, including lipid profile, sleep quality, and overall well-being, with a low incidence of adverse effects. From this perspective, the use of herbal medicines proves to be a safe and effective strategy in managing systemic arterial hypertension in the elderly, provided it is supervised by healthcare professionals and based on up-to-date scientific evidence.
