FINANCIAL LITERACY IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION: A PROPOSAL FOR TEACHER TRAINING BASED ON A STUDY OF INSTRUCTORS AT AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IN NORTHERN PARANÁ

This study addresses the integration of financial education into vocational education, recognizing its strategic role in the holistic development of students. Considering the historical complexity of vocational education in Brazil and its transformations in response to social, economic, and technological demands, the research proposes to analyze how content related to financial health can contribute to the development of students’ autonomy, critical awareness, and social responsibility. The study is grounded in theoretical frameworks that view work as an educational principle and advocate for student-centered education, in line with the Freirean perspective, valuing students’ prior knowledge and life experiences.
The general objective of the research is to develop workshops for the continuing education of teachers, promoting pedagogical practices that encourage the practical application of financial education knowledge in students’ personal and professional lives. Among the specific objectives, the following stand out: mapping teachers’ prior knowledge, identifying relevant financial education content, designing and implementing workshops contextualized to the labor market, and evaluating the results of the educational program.
By integrating financial education into vocational programs, such as Young Apprentice, Nursing Technicians, Administrative Assistant, Culinary Arts, and Aesthetics, the aim is not only to strengthen technical skills but also to provide tools that enable students to understand and manage their finances, plan career paths, and develop conscious consumption and investment habits. The research highlights that financial education, when systematized and contextualized, constitutes an essential element for promoting citizenship, social inclusion, and preparing students to face contemporary economic and professional challenges.
