Collective Health – salt fluoridation under analysis

Study with the objective of identifying how the fluoridation of salt for human consumption can contribute to the health of the oral cavity. This is a qualitative, exploratory, systematic literature review. The results point to the concern in the world, in relation to the disease of dental caries, from the first half of the 20th century. Several countries in Europe and Latin America add fluoride to the table salt consumed by the population, to prevent the disease. In the 1970s, Brazil opted for fluoridation of public water, showing itself to be indifferent to the geographic reality of the national territory. Another aspect that draws attention is the formal failure of some states to comply with the legislation. It is concluded that the Brazilian State faces a crisis of legitimacy caused by numerous social problems, such as poverty and unemployment, even reflecting in the area of oral health.
