Remission of Type 2 Diabetes: Reversing the Paradigm—Type 2 Diabetes Remission as a Therapeutic Goal
Remission of type 2 diabetes (T2D) has become an increasingly recognized and achievable therapeutic goal, representing a paradigm shift in the management of the disease. This review explores remission criteria, the intricate pathophysiological mechanisms involved, the various interventions that can induce remission, and long-term outcomes, including factors influencing remission maintenance and the risk of relapse. We analyzed recent clinical studies, meta-analyses, and medical society guidelines to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of how T2D remission can be achieved and maintained, thereby improving metabolic health, reducing complications, and enhancing patients’ quality of life.
