QUANTIFICATION OF VEHICLE EMISSIONS IN HUMANITARIAN AID: A CASE STUDY OF A FLOOD SITUATION IN SANTA CATARINA

Severe flooding events have become increasingly frequent in Brazil, and given the intensification of these disasters, driven by extreme climate change, it is essential to strengthen humanitarian logistics and address its environmental implications.  This article aims to quantify vehicle emissions associated with the delivery of humanitarian aid items to flood-affected areas in the state of Santa Catarina (SC). The main contribution is to evaluate the mode of transport that can significantly contribute to reducing emissions of carbon dioxide (CO₂), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). In this way, humanitarian organizations in SC could avoid any harmful impact of their operations on society, the economy, and the environment.
