Abstract: Cardiopulmonary arrest (CA) is characterized by the absence of mechanical activity of the heart. The route of choice during an emergency is intravenous (IV) access, but this can be difficult and time-consuming in the case of severely injured or ill patients. Guidelines recommend intraosseous (IO) access for patients with IV access difficulties. IO access has become a fast, safe and effective method compared to IV access. The procedure is easy to perform and successful in 90 to 95% of cases in which it is indicated. OBJECTIVES: To explain the role of nurses in performing intraosseous puncture and to describe the advantages and disadvantages of intraosseous puncture in CPR. METHODOLOGY: This is an integrative review of the qualitative literature. Inclusion criteria were: articles published in the last five years (2018-2023), full text and freely available. Exclusion criteria were: articles that were not related to the theme and outside the time frame. RESULTS: From the synthesis of the results of each selected article, it was possible to identify that most studies analyze the theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing professionals in the face of CPR and intraosseous puncture. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that nurses' propaedeutics in intraosseous puncture in patients with CA involves theoretical and practical knowledge, appropriate selection of materials, continuous monitoring and teamwork. Adequate qualification and continuous training are essential to ensure the effectiveness and safety of this procedure, helping to improve the chances of patient survival in critical emergency situations.
