PRODUCTIVIDAD Y FORMACIÓN DE VARIEDADES DE CHILE XCAT IK
El chile Xcat ik es un tipo de chile güero criollo cultivado en el estado de Yucatán, México, muy apreciado en la cocina local. Es de forma cónica alargada y puntiagudo, de color amarillo verdoso en estado inmaduro y cambia a tonos rojos cuando madura. A pesar de su importancia todavía es escasa la información sobre la tecnología de producción y no hay disponibilidad de variedades. Para ampliar la información sobre el manejo agronómico del chile Xcat ik se evaluó el rendimiento y calidad de fruto que se puede obtener en agricultura protegida y se evaluaron las características de dos accesiones del banco de germoplasma en vías de formar variedades. Se llevaron a cabo 4 ensayos en invernadero durante el periodo de septiembre de 2020 a abril de 2022. El potencial de rendimiento de chile Xcat ik en la mejor época de siembra fue de 37.4 ton/ha. La accesión P108 presentó fruto de forma triangular estrecha, con cáliz de aspecto no envolvente, margen del cáliz liso, sinuosidad excluida la parte basal ausente o muy débil y forma del ápice agudo, con un rendimiento de 35.4 ton/ha. La accesión YMRM presentó variaciones en la forma del fruto. Se continuó evaluando dos variantes, YMRM-cv presentó frutos de color verde con la forma de la unión con el pedicelo plano y sinuosidad del pericarpio en la parte basal débil. La variante YMRM-cvp presentó frutos con cavidad peduncular presente y sinuosidad del pericarpio en la parte basal media. La accesión P108 tiene buen rendimiento, es homogénea y estable en cuanto a la forma del fruto por lo que es candidata para ser liberada como variedad criolla de polinización abierta. Las variantes de la accesión YMRM tienen forma de fruto diferente a la accesión P108 pero todavía no se tiene homogeneidad en la descendencia.

Abstract:
Xcat ik pepper is a type of banana pepper creole variety cultivated in the state of Yucatan, Mexico, highly appreciated in regional cuisine. It is elongated and pointed conical in shape, greenish-yellow in an immature state and changes to red tones when mature. Despite its importance there is little information on production technology and there is no availability of homogeneous varieties. To expand the information on the agronomic management of the Xcat ik pepper, yield and fruit quality that can be obtained in protected agriculture and the characteristics of two accessions of the germplasm bank were evaluated. Four greenhouse trials were carried out during the period from September 2020 to April 2022. Yield potential of Xcat ik pepper at the best planting time was 37.4 tons/ha. Accession P108 presented a narrow triangular shape, with a calyx of non-enveloping appearance, smooth calyx margin, sinuation of pericarp excluding basal part absent or very weak, and acute apex, with a yield of 35.4 tons/ha. YMRM accession presented variations in the shape of the fruit. Two variants continued to be evaluated, YMRM-cv presented green fruits with the shape of the union with the flat pedicel and sinuation of the pericarp in basal part weak. YMRM-cvp presented fruits with peduncular cavity present and sinuation of the pericarp at basal part in the middle basal part medium. Accession P108 has good yield, is homogeneous and stable in terms of the shape of the fruit so it is a candidate to be released as an open pollination Creole variety. The variants of the YMRM accession are different in shape from P108 but there is still no homogeneity.
