Abstract: This article addresses the main oral pathologies caused by infectious agents, highlighting the clinical manifestations in the oral cavity. The oral microbiota, composed of more than 750 species of microorganisms, plays a fundamental role in maintaining oral health, being influenced by behavioral, environmental and genetic factors. The imbalance of this microbiota can result in diseases such as gingivitis, periodontitis and caries, in addition to being associated with systemic conditions. Among the infectious agents, bacteria, fungi (mainly of the genus Candida) and viruses (such as HSV-1, VZV and HPV) stand out, each with specific mechanisms of pathogenicity and distinct clinical manifestations. The diagnosis is based on clinical evaluation and laboratory tests, while treatment involves the use of antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals and, more recently, probiotics as a therapeutic alternative. Understanding the interactions between microbiota and host is essential for effective preventive and therapeutic strategies, aiming to promote oral and systemic health
