Abstract: Sleep deprivation and insomnia have been shown to be factors that directly influence public health, especially due to their impacts on mental health and the psychosocial functioning of individuals. Sleep, as an active physiological process, plays a fundamental role in emotional regulation, memory consolidation, and modulation of neuroendocrine and immunological responses. The interruption of this process, even if temporary, is associated with increased vulnerability to disorders such as depression, anxiety, and burnout. Studies indicate significant neurochemical and behavioral changes, in addition to impairment of executive function and psychological well-being. Populations such as medical students and health professionals, exposed to intense routines and shift work, are at high risk for cognitive and emotional dysfunctions resulting from poor sleep quality.
