Fresh vs. vitrified oocytes: an analysis of the live birth rate in in vitro fertilization

The article compares the use of fresh and vitrified oocytes in in vitro fertilization (IVF), analyzing the live birth rate as the main indicator of success. Vitrification, a cryopreservation technique, is highlighted for its efficiency in preserving fertility, especially in cases such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), advanced reproductive age and premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). The review considered studies from 2014 to 2024, selecting five relevant articles. The results show that, although live birth rates are similar, fresh oocytes still have a slight advantage. The study highlights that vitrification has shown significant advances, but factors such as methodology and laboratory quality still influence the results. Technical improvements and further studies could increase the efficiency of the vitrification method.
