Abstract: A promising substitute for fossil fuels is the ethanol obtained from vegetable sources, such as sugarcane and corn. The ethanol is already used as a pure fuel or blended with gasoline, for example, in countries like Brazil, India and the United States. The ‘bioethanol’ can be produced also from lignocellulosic materials. These materials consist of carbohydrates complex in the cellulose’s form, hemicellulose and starch. A viable and profitable destination that meets the environmental requirements is to obtain bioethanol from agro-industrial co-products. One of these co-products is the buriti (Mauritia flexuosa L.), a source of oil with a high amount of carotenes, thus representing applications in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, resulting in accumulation of this material. Thus, when we check the carbohydrate content available in free form and polymerized from a centesimal analysis was done chemical treatments with solutions of diluted acid and base in two distinct steps in order to promote the removal of hemicellulose and lignin. Finally the hydrolysis was performed with the enzymatic complex of cellulases, enzymes that hydrolyze cellulose chains of monosaccharide’s glucose substrate used by microorganisms such as the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the cellular metabolism resulting in the excreted product ethanol
