Abstract: This article analyzes the role of the pedagogue as a member of the Educational Technical-Administrative (TAE) career in the Federal Institutes (IFs), investigating the duties, challenges, and initial training inherent to their practice. The methodology consists of qualitative research, of a bibliographic and documentary nature, based on a review of academic productions that address the identity of this professional within the context of Professional and Technological Education (EPT). The results evidence that the pedagogue's identity in the investigated Federal Institutes is marked by tensions in professional exercise and conflicts of attributions, manifested both in their daily practice and in the relationships established within the professional environment, with their training being permeated by historical gaps in Pedagogy courses.
