THE ROLE OF PUBLIC POLICIES IN PROMOTING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE ELDERLY

This study addresses public health policies aimed at the elderly population in Brazil, focusing on the analysis of their implementation in Arcoverde, Pernambuco. The research aims to investigate the perception of the elderly regarding the health services offered by the Unified Health System (SUS) and specific programs aimed at this age group, such as the Family Health Program, the Elderly Health Program, the Popular Pharmacy, and the vaccination program. The methodology adopted was qualitative and field-based, using face-to-face interviews with six elderly people who use these services. The responses were recorded and organized using Google Forms, allowing the data to be presented in graphs and tables. Several studies and academic contributions have been fundamental in supporting the analysis of aging, quality of life, and public policies aimed at the elderly. The study reveals that, despite advances in public health, such as the implementation of specific health programs, the elderly face significant challenges, such as a shortage of free medicines, lack of family support, and difficulties in accessing medical appointments. In addition, the research indicated that, although the elderly recognize improvements in health over the years, there are still important barriers to be overcome to ensure more accessible and quality health care for this population.
