ILÊ AIYÊ IN HISTORY: WEAVINGS ON EDUCATION, CULTURE, AND THE BODY.
This article is part of one of the chapters of the thesis “Conceptions of the Body in the Ilê Aiyê Carnival Bloco Association: A Study Based on the History of the Bloco and the Pedagogical Practices of the Mãe Hilda School and the Erê Band,” approved by the Graduate Program in Education at the Federal University of Bahia in 2013. It aims to explain how Bahia’s first Afro carnival group stands against racism and advocates for anti-racist education using mechanisms such as education, culture, and the body. The methodology draws on interpretations of interviews conducted at the time of data collection, as well as bibliographies and documents.
