Abstract: This work is characterized as qualitative, analytical and descriptive, which aims to present a proposal for an interpretative reading of the short story “The Man Who Spread the Desert”[in a literal translation], by Ignácio de Loyola Brandão, based on contributions of the ecocriticism and from authors such as Boff (2005; 2012), Guattari (1990), Garrard (2006), among others. The study allowed us to conclude that reading the story from an ecocritical perspective enables the understanding of subjective issues, the psychic and social nature of how they impact the climate change incidence and the need for environmental care. It is, therefore, a useful literary theory for the implementation of pedagogical proposals for readings in high school literature classes focused on the theme of Environmental Education.
