Abstract: In the state of Pará, the CME (Special Missions Command) was created as a response to the Eldorado do Carajás tragedy, in which an agrarian conflict involving non-specialized police personnel resulted in the deaths of nineteen rural workers and had negative repercussions worldwide. With the creation of the CME, the Military Police of Pará acquired a doctrine of standardized operational procedures in complex incidents. Due to the vast extent of the Pará territory, units were created in the interior to optimize specialized operational actions. The 2nd BME, located in Santarém-PA, has qualified personnel active in different missions, such as combating drug trafficking using sniffer dogs at the Candiru Base in Óbidos. In this study entitled "Special Missions in Western Pará: the importance of the 2nd BME in combating crime," we will seek to understand the relevance of the Special Missions Battalion in relation to its performance in complex police operations. The purpose of this research was to demonstrate that in high-risk situations, the technical and operational capabilities of specialized troops are of paramount importance for mission success. The methodology adopted was based on the quali-quantitative modality of scientific research, through documentary and bibliographic research, and also through empirical observation. In addition, quantitative and percentage data on the operational productivity of the 2nd BME (Special Military Battalion) were analyzed during specific periods. Finally, from a tragic event emerged one of the most specialized operational troops in Brazil, namely, the Special Missions Command of the State of Pará.
