METHOD FOR REDUCING SECONDARY LOBE INTERFERENCE IN A COLUMN OF WATER ACQUIRED BY MULTIBEAM SONAR
The acoustic waves used in the technique of remote sensing by multibeam sonar interact with the environment, mainly with discontinuities present in it. The seafloor reflects and absorbs these waves, adding to measurement errors. Due to the geometry of the beam, secondary lobes are reflected by the floor, causing strong constructive interference at a distance greater than the length of the central beam. For this reason, an SRSN algorithm is used to reduce this interference, obtaining satisfactory results. Experimental data were acquired in the Celtic Sea using an EM2040 multibeam sonar.

Abstract:
The acoustic waves used in the technique of remote sensing by multibeam sonar interact with the environment, mainly with discontinuities present in it. The seafloor reflects and absorbs these waves, adding to measurement errors. Due to the geometry of the beam, secondary lobes are reflected by the floor, causing strong constructive interference at a distance greater than the length of the central beam. For this reason, an SRSN algorithm is used to reduce this interference, obtaining satisfactory results. Experimental data were acquired in the Celtic Sea using an EM2040 multibeam sonar.
