Abstract: Melanoma as a neoplastic group accounts for 5% of neoplasms in terms of global prevalence. It develops from mutations in melanocytes, whose presence in regions such as the eyes and other structures allows the pathology to develop within the ocular structure. Among these, uveal melanoma accounts for 5% of cases, being the most common intraocular neoplasm in adulthood, in addition to having a high metastatic potential in hepatic and pulmonary sites and high mortality. This study describes the case of a 69-year-old white male patient presenting with weight loss, photopsia, and progressive worsening of visual acuity in the left eye over a period of six months, who was being monitored at an oncology unit. An A/B mode ultrasound examination revealed advanced choroidal melanoma in the posterior segment, followed by enucleation and anatomopathological study, which confirmed the diagnostic hypothesis, in addition to subsequent findings of metastases in the liver and lungs. Scientific journals from the Google Scholar, Pubmed, and LiLacs databases provided the basis for this article. This study seeks to address the importance of early diagnosis and the appropriate choice of therapeutic approach to improve prognosis and quality of life, as well as to relate its metastatic nature to patient survival.
